Watershed Fire 2013
This fire started in the early afternoon of Friday 18th January 2013 on property adjacent to the Moppity Road to the east of Young NSW. Driven by strong south westerly winds, the fire rapidly spread to the Douglas Gap Range, a heavily timbered and steep piece of forest country on the eastern side of Young. At times temperatures around the fireground reached in excess of 40 degrees C. Fire crews from surrounding areas battled the strong wind with fire tankers and light units. Air support was also thrown into the attack and as the fire emerged from the forest, graders and bulk water tankers were engaged to build firbreaks to contain the blaze.
The fire was finally brought to a halt at the Campbellfields Road just to the west of Boorowa township.
